Antonio Stradivari 1715 ca. VL Schneiderhan
The production date of this instrument has been subjected to different interpretations over time. The violin was seen in 1870 by the violin maker Charles-Eugène Gand, who recorded it as having been produced in 1715, at the apex of Stradivari’s ‘Golden Period’. In 1902, the violin makers Caressa & Français attributed it to the Cremonese master’s late production phase and dated the instrument to 1727. This violin is now considered to have been fabricated circa 1715. Although the figures on the label have since faded away, the date recorded by C. E. Gand is believed to be correct.
